En 2020, la superficie plantada de caf\u00e9 ocup\u00f3 la quinta posici\u00f3n entre los cultivos c\u00edclicos y perennes, solamente por debajo de la destinada a ma\u00edz, frijol, sorgo y ca\u00f1a de az\u00facar.<\/p>\n<p>En los \u00faltimos ciclos productivos se aprecia una recuperaci\u00f3n moderada en la actividad cafetalera de las zonas productoras de M\u00e9xico.<\/p>\n<p>En el ciclo 2019\/20, con cifras preliminares del Servicio de Informaci\u00f3n Agroalimentaria y Pesquera (SIAP), la producci\u00f3n de caf\u00e9 cereza fue de 958 mil toneladas, lo que representa un incremento de 6.5% con respecto al ciclo previo.<\/p>\n<p>Para el ciclo 2020\/21, se prev\u00e9 que la producci\u00f3n crezca en 1.3% a tasa anual, para llegar a 971 mil toneladas.<\/p>\n<p>Los estados de Chiapas, Veracruz, Puebla, Oaxaca y Guerrero participaron con 94% de la producci\u00f3n en el ciclo 2019\/20.<\/p>\n<p>No obstante, los tres primeros aportaron m\u00e1s del 80 por ciento del total.<\/p>\n<p>Para 2020\/21, se estima que la producci\u00f3n en Chiapas crezca en 1.7% (6,583 toneladas), y en Puebla en 2.2% (3,574 toneladas). Por el contrario, en Veracruz se estima una reducci\u00f3n de 1.0% (2,376 toneladas).<\/p>\n<p>De acuerdo con el Departamento de Agricultura de Estados Unidos (USDA), en la estimaci\u00f3n de diciembre de 2020, se prev\u00e9 que la producci\u00f3n de caf\u00e9 verde en M\u00e9xico sea de 234,000 toneladas en el ciclo cafetalero 2020\/21.<\/p>\n<p>Lo anterior implica un aumento de 5.4% con respecto a 2019\/20. La producci\u00f3n de caf\u00e9 ar\u00e1biga representar\u00eda el 85%, mientras que el resto corresponder\u00eda a caf\u00e9 robusta.<\/p>\n<p>Para el primero se estima un aumento anual de 4.8%, y de 9.1% para el segundo.<\/p>\n<p>En el reporte para M\u00e9xico, el USDA se\u00f1ala que las medidas sanitarias implementadas como respuesta al COVID-19, frenaron los trabajos de rehabilitaci\u00f3n y expansi\u00f3n de la superficie plantada durante el ciclo 2019\/20.<\/p>\n<p>No obstante, el incremento de la producci\u00f3n se debe a las actividades de reemplazo de cafetales con variedades resistentes a la roya, y por el aumento de la densidad de siembra con las nuevas variedades.<\/p>\n<p>Para el ciclo 2020\/21, el consumo de caf\u00e9 verde en M\u00e9xico se prev\u00e9 al alza.<\/p>\n<p>Se pronostica un incremento de 3.0% con respecto a 2019\/20, para ubicarse en 164,000 toneladas. De concretarse lo anterior, se obtendr\u00eda la segunda cifra r\u00e9cord hist\u00f3rica, similar a lo reportado en 2013\/14.<\/p>\n<p>El consumo del caf\u00e9 en el territorio mexicano se divide en un 60% caf\u00e9 soluble y 40% caf\u00e9 tostado y molido. Para el primero, se estima un aumento anual de 3.1% y para el segundo de 2.9 por ciento.<\/p>\n<p>Con datos del comercio exterior de la Secretar\u00eda de Econom\u00eda &#8211; SIAVI, alrededor del 48% del volumen exportado de caf\u00e9 verde en 2020 se destin\u00f3 hacia Estados Unidos, mientras que el segundo destino fue Alemania (11.73%) y el tercero fue B\u00e9lgica (8.63%).<\/p>\n<p>Por el contrario, las exportaciones a Espa\u00f1a y Canad\u00e1 se redujeron en 19 y 9.4%, en el mismo orden.<\/p>\n<p>Con la estimaci\u00f3n de USDA, la balanza comercial de caf\u00e9 verde en M\u00e9xico se mantendr\u00e1 superavitaria en el ciclo 2020\/21. Las exportaciones se prev\u00e9n al alza en 8.3%, mientras que el incremento de las importaciones se estima en 2.7% con respecto al ciclo 2019\/20.<\/p>\n<p>Con respecto al precio de referencia para el caf\u00e9 ar\u00e1biga mexicano en la Bolsa de Nueva York (ICE), en 2020 present\u00f3 un increment\u00f3 en 13.2% a tasa anual.
